Configuring MS Outlook 2003

• Follow the directions on your e-mail software, this should be the only information you need:

EXAMPLE:
The following series of screen shots show you how to setup an email account in Outlook 2003. This account is for james@example.com.
Step 1) Launch Microsoft Outlook from your desktop, by double-clicking on the shortcut icon. If it’s not on your desktop, try opening it from Start > Programs > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Outlook 2003.
Step 2) In the Outlook menu bar, click on Tools and select E-mail Accounts.

Step 3) Select the Add a new e-mail account option and click Next.

Step 4) Choose the POP3 option and click Next.
Step 5)
- In the Your Name field, type the name you would like to appear in the “From” field of any emails you send.
- In the E-mail Address field, type your email address (eg. james@example.com)
- In the Incoming mail server (POP3) field, type mail.YOURDOMAIN.COM (replace "YOURDOMAIN.COM" with your actual domain - eg. mail.xyzwidgets.com.au)
- In the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) field, type your ISP's outgoing mail server (eg. mail.bigpond.com)
- In the User Name and Password fields, type your email address and password
- Make sure the Remember password option is ticked
- Make sure the Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) option is NOT selected
- Finally, click on Test Account Settings
Step 6) Check that the five tests all ran successfully and received green ticks. Then click Close.
Step 7) Then click Next and then Finish – Microsoft Outlook 2003 is now configured to send and receive your email.

OPTIONAL STEP (CHECK WITH YOUR ISP FIRST):
Step 8) If your ISP's outgoing mail server requires "authentication", go to menu: 'Tools' > 'Accounts' (see Step 1), select your newly created account then click "Properties" button.
From there, check the "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" box, and click "OK".
